Hello, my name is Chris Elliott and in my over twenty years of teaching I have taught kindergarten, third grade, one semester of fifth grade reading, and fourth grade. I LOVE being a Pirate!! I am very excited to be your child’s fourth grade teacher! Fourth grade is a huge year for kids because they are learning how to manage their schoolwork and their social interests outside of class. Each week the kids will be expected to study (outside of class) their spelling words, work on their math facts, read a story or short passage, read their AR book, and occasionally study for a chapter test in science, social studies, math, or language arts.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with concentration in science and social studies, and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education. I also have full certification in Early Childhood Education with all of the classes split between my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. I’ve been toying with the idea of going back to school and finishing up my counseling degree, but have never really wanted to leave my classroom.
I want my kids “doing” as much as they can in order for them to understand the skills that I’m teaching. I want them to challenge themselves to “do” great things and never be afraid to try!! :)
Working with my incredible fourth graders each day makes me smile! Teaching fourth grade is extremely rewarding because they are still young enough to love their teacher, but responsible enough to take care of business. I love the challenge of teaching each child and finding out their particular style of learning. When I teach a lesson it’s done in many different ways to reach all of the learning styles. One of my favorite quotes is, “If you study to remember, you will forget, but if you study to understand, you will remember forever.” I can’t expect my kids to “get it” if they only see the material during one class period, so a review of various learned skills is done daily to keep them exposed to important material.
When you come to my room you will find a room full of engaged learners. I feel it is important to get the kids up and active whenever possible. However, some lessons are meant to be quiet, so that’s how we do it. I am very passionate about helping my kids make memories and build the strongest foundation possible for future grades.
I think being a mom is an asset when it comes to running my classroom. I definitely have the “mom” look and tone when it comes to discipline. :) I promise to love your child, get on to them when necessary, challenge them to be the best they can be, encourage them to make good choices, inspire them to be a good citizen/friend, and be flexible and not sweat the small stuff. I also promise to be a teacher that understands that life happens and some things are beyond our control.
The greatest treasures in my life are my three magnificent kids that I share with my husband. I feel very blessed that God chose me to be their mom!! I became a Geeg a few years ago and didn’t realize my heart could love so much! Let’s make some memories!! :)
